Slipcovers can be formal or casual, tailored to look almost like upholstery or left loose for a "shabby chic" style. Many people like slipcovers because they can be removed for washing. If you intend to launder your slipcovers, it's a good idea to either buy fabric that doesn't shrink, or plan to pre-wash (and possibly iron) your fabric. While slipcovers can be a wonderful way to cover damage or protect a beloved old piece of furniture, they're not necessarily less expensive than upholstery work. Nonetheless, you might find you want both! And I'm happy to oblige.
